What are hardware models?

A hardware model describes a specific make and configuration — for example, a MacBook Pro 16" — that many individual hardware assets are based on. Your model catalogue is the list of approved models your team procures and assigns, so instead of re-entering the same details on every asset, each asset references a model.

Each model record captures details such as:

• Manufacturer — the brand that makes the model, such as Dell, Apple, or Cisco.

• Model number — the manufacturer's part number or SKU.

• Chassis type — the form factor, such as laptop, desktop, or rack.

• Release date,end of life (EOL), and end of support (EOS) — lifecycle dates for planning refreshes.

• Standard warranty — the default warranty period in months.

• Weight — used for shipping and freight.

• Status — the model's approval status in your standard: Approved, Under review, Exception, Deprecated, or Prohibited.
