Set up hardware asset management
Hardware asset management is available with Jira Service Management Premium and Enterprise.
To set up hardware asset management for the first time, you must be a Jira admin and an Assets admin. Once it's set up, you can give other people access — see Manage who can access hardware.
Enabling hardware asset management does not affect your existing Assets or Jira Service Management configurations. Set up hardware asset management to create a dedicated hardware space pre-configured with the request types, automations and Assets schema your team needs to track hardware from procurement to disposal. A guided setup wizard walks you through each step.
Choose how to set up
From the hardware asset management landing page, choose the approach that suits your team:
Start with a ready-made setup — get an out-of-the-box space with the ITSM space template, users you provided during the onboarding and automation rules. This is the fastest way to get started and is the approach described below.
Build on your existing requests — add hardware asset management on top of the hardware requests you already have.
Tailor your setup with Rovo — let Rovo help you customize your setup.
The Assets common data model is a set of pre-configured, connected system schemas used for hardware management, inventory management, and more. If it's already enabled in your workspace, only the hardware schema is added when you continue.
Start with a ready-made setup
On the hardware asset management landing page, select Set up now.
If prompted, enable the Assets common data model. In the Enable Assets common data model dialog, select Enable. All the CDM schemas (including hardware schema) are enabled as part of this step (in case, you already have CDM schemas, only the Hardware schema will be enabled. Your existing schemas remain as-is.)
In the setup wizard, enter your space details, including a Space name (a space Key is generated for you).
Add people and assign roles to give your team access:
Administrator — can access and manage hardware features.
User — can access hardware features.
Review your selections, then complete the setup to create your space.
When setup finishes, your hardware space is created. Your Assets common data model starts empty, so you'll see a prompt to import your data — see Import your hardware data. A short product tour points out where to find your hardware, models, stockrooms, and related work.
Build on an existing request
On the hardware asset management landing page, select Set up now.
If prompted, enable the Assets common data model. In the Enable Assets common data model dialog, select Enable. All the CDM schemas (including hardware schema) are enabled as part of this step (in case, you already have CDM schemas, only the Hardware schema will be enabled. Your existing schemas remain as-is.)
Select the hardware types your team tracks — for example, laptops, desktops, servers, or network devices. Only the types you select appear on the Hardware page.
Add people and assign roles to give your team access:
Administrator — can access and manage hardware features.
User — can access hardware features.
Review your selections, then complete setup to create your space.
