Manage depreciation rules

Hardware asset management is available with Jira Service Management Premium and Enterprise.

To set up depreciation rules, you must have a hardware Administrator role. Depreciation rules are configured in Hardware settings, which only administrators can open.

Depreciation tracks how the value of your hardware decreases over its useful life, so your asset records reflect their current book value for financial reporting. A depreciation rule defines how that decrease is calculated — for example, using the straight-line method over a set number of years, down to a salvage value.

Each hardware asset records the financial details depreciation is based on:

  • Purchase price — the original cost, used as the starting book value.

  • Purchase date — the point depreciation starts from.

  • Residual value — the estimated salvage value at the end of the asset's useful life.

  • Current book value — the value after depreciation.

Do this with Rovo

You can manage depreciation rules using Rovo. Open Rovo Chat and type /hardware-configuration and describe the change you want — for example, "set laptops to depreciate straight-line over 3 years" or "update the salvage value for our depreciation rule". Rovo previews the change and asks you to confirm before applying it.
