What is a data source field?

Assets in Jira Service Management is a Premium and Enterprise only feature. Learn more about Assets.

When importing data from a data source into Assets, a data source field (formerly called a data locator) is a unique piece of data from the source file that identifies a single object and it’s attributes.

The data source field will be formatted differently depending on what kind of data source you are using:

  • A CSV file must have a string as the data source field. The default data source field for a CSV file is the first entry in a row of data, which would correspond to the header row in a table format, such as Excel or Google Sheets.

  • A JSON file must have a data source field in the form of a JSON array, such as items.item or json.data.systems.
