Verify attribute values to be unique

Assets is included with Service Collection Paid plans (Standard, Premium, and Enterprise). What Assets is and how it works.

The Unique values setting allows you to configure certain attributes to be ‘unique’, so they do not have any duplicate values wherever that attribute appears.

This also means that unique attributes will not have duplicate values in that object type, or in any child object types that inherit attributes from a parent object type.

Unique values can be enabled for the following attribute types:

  • Text

  • Integer

  • Float

  • Date

  • DateTime

  • URL

  • Reference (Object)

To verify attribute values to be unique within the object type, you must be logged in as an Assets admin with Jira or Jira Service Management access or have Object Schema Manager permissions.

Enabling Unique values

  • You can have a maximum of two attributes set as Unique for each object type.

  • Objects that can contain multiple values (Cardinality greater than one) cannot be Unique too.

  1. From the app switcher, select Assets

  2. From your sidebar, select Schemas.

  3. Select an object schema.

  4. Select the relevant object type.

  5. Select Attributes.

  6. Select the gear icon next to the attribute, then Attribute settings in the dropdown.

  7. Under the General tab, select Unique.

  8. Select Update. A duplicate check will run in the background.

Unique values can only be enabled once all duplicates have been removed.
