Assign values to fields on work items in a journey
The features described in this article are only available to those participating in the early access program (EAP) for journeys in Jira Service Management.
Journeys are made of work items that each get created automatically in their respective projects. However in order for these work items to be created with content in them, values need to be assigned to fields - especially those that are required.
The values available for you to pull from at this time can be collected from the parent work item. For example, if during an onboarding journey you have a ‘Setup software’ work item, you’ll be able to access any values created from the parent work item.
Values appear in plain text to make it easier to understand what they are. Once they are placed into a field, they convert to syntax so you can manipulate their strings or manually add in your own content.
Set values to fields on a work item
Add a work item, or select a work item to edit.
Set values to the fields on this work item using the Available values side panel.
You’ll need to set values to these fields in order for work items to contain content when created.
Drag the value into your chosen field, or select it to copy and paste.
Every required field needs to have a value assigned to it in order for the work item to be created, but if you’d like to populate other fields, select Add more fields.
Select Confirm once complete.
Currently only values collected from these specific field types are supported at this time. These include:
Short text
Number
Select list (single)
Radio buttons
Checkboxes
Date picker
User picker (single and multiple)
Group picker (single and multiple)
If a field type isn’t supported at this time, you can try mapping it to a single-line text field as most values should support this.
