Migrate Insight Cloud to Insight in Jira Service Management

Insight in Jira Service Management is a Premium and Enterprise only feature. It is compatible only with company-managed projects. Learn more about Insight.

If you are a current Insight for Cloud app user and you’d like to switch to Insight in Jira Service Management, you will have to migrate your data from one platform to the other.

Follow the steps below to help you migrate object types, objects, attributes, references, statuses, roles, automations, and asset-type configurations.

Before you begin

Before you begin, you must have both Insight for Cloud app and Insight in Jira Service Management installed on the same instance of Jira. You must also be logged in as a Jira admin.

Export your object schemas from the app

To migrate your object schemas from the Insight for Cloud app to Insight in Jira Service Management, first export all of your object schemas:

  1. In the Insight for Cloud app, select the left sidebar of your Jira cloud instance. If you have the alternate navigation in use, you will see this option on the horizontal menu.

  2. Under Insight, select the Object Schemas header in the sidebar, and then select Export Object Schemas at top-right.

  3. In the Export Object Schemas screen, select Select All. Exporting all schemas is recommended if you are using cross-schema references that link several object schemas and you want to preserve these references.

  4. Select Export with objects if you would like to also export all objects in this object schema.

    • Click Protect with password if you would like to add a password. Enter the password for this object schema export in the box below. You can select Show password to make the password visible when typing it in.

    • Click Export to continue.

  5. In the next screen, select Confirm to begin the export. Depending on the amount of data being exported this process may take a long time. You can leave this page and return without disrupting the export.

  6. When the export is complete, click Download to download the exported data.

  7. Click Close, at bottom-right, to close this screen and return to the Insight Object Schemas view.

Import your object schemas into Insight for Jira Service Management

After you have exported your object schemas, you will be left with a .zip file containing all of the data about your object schemas.

If you have a license for the legacy Insight app as well as Jira Service Management Cloud Premium or Enterprise Plan, you can import this data directly into Insight for Jira Service Management:

  1. In Insight for Jira Service Management, select Insight in the top navigation bar.

  2. Select Configure Insight.

  3. Under the Import object schema tab, select Begin import to begin your import.

  4. In the Upload file screen:

    1. Select Upload file and choose the .zip file containing your exported data.

    2. If you set a password on your exported data, enter the password in the Password field. You can make the password visible by selecting Show password.

    3. Select which data you would like to import:

      1. Include objects - include objects only.

      2. Include object avatars - include objects and object avatars.

      3. Include attachments - include objects and attachments.

    4. Select Next. The file will be uploaded and analysed automatically.

  5. In the Rename object schemas screen, you can change the name or key of the object schemas that you are importing, then select Next.

  6. In the Confirm screen you can review the details of the object schemas you are about to import. When you are satisfied, select Import.

  7. When the import is complete, you will see a notification that your file has been successfully imported.

All customers who have a license for the legacy Insight app as well as Jira Service Management Cloud Premium or Enterprise Plan should be able to use the Import object schema feature.
