Import object types into Insight in Jira Service Management

After you have exported your object types, objects, attributes, and references from Insight for Cloud app you will need to import them into Insight in Jira Service Management.

  1. For each object type that you want to migrate:

    1. Select an Object schema.

    2. Select Configure, then choose the Import tab.

    3. Under the Import tab:

      1. If there is no import configuration you will see the message No Import connection created. Click on Be the first to create one.

      2. If an import configuration has already been created, click Create Configuration to add a new import configuration.

    4. Select CSV Import.

    5. The Create Import configuration - General fields screen will configure how Insight will separate different values in your data, and deal with empty or unknown values:

      1. Name (required) - enter a name of the object type.

      2. Description - enter a description for the import configuration.

    6. Leave all other settings unmodified and select Next.

    7. The Create Import configuration - Module fields screen will configure the details of your data:

      1. File (required) - select the CSV file that contains the export from Insight for Cloud app.

    8. Leave all other settings unmodified and select Next.

    9. Select Save Import Configuration.

    10. In the Create Insight Structure or Import Configuration screen:

      1. Select Create Insight Structure.

      2. Select Close.

    11. The import engine will create a new object type and a new attribute for each of the original attributes under the object type CSV Import. To avoid confusion, you should rename the object type to match the name of the original object type.

      1. Select your Object schema.

      2. Select your Object type.

      3. Select Object type in the top right and select Configure in the dropdown.

      4. Under the General tab, select Name and rename the object type from “CSV Import” to the name of the original object type.

    12. The import engine has now created a Predefined structure for this object type and created an attribute of type “text” for each of the original attributes. If these attributes were originally of type “object”, “status”, “user”, “group”, or “selection”, you will have to modify each of these attributes to hold the correct information. You can edit the attributes by clicking on the Type, Type Value, and Additional Value fields for each attribute.

    13. Now that the structure is in place, copy the values for each attribute from the CSV file into Insight in Jira Service Management.

      1. Select your Object schema.

      2. Select Configure, then choose the Import tab.

      3. Under the Import tab, select your Import configuration.

      4. Select the gear icon   next to the import configuration and select Create Predefined Structure.

      5. Select Create Predefined Configuration.

      6. Select Close.

    14. The final step is to create objects by executing the import.

      1. Select the gear iconnext to the import configuration and select Execute Import.

      2. Click Import.

      3. The Finished process in action screen should appear, notifying the process is complete and providing you with information about the time the import took to run and the number of objects imported.

Although you have imported your object types from Insight for Cloud app, you must reimport them one final time to link any of your references from one object type to another.

  1. Select an Object schema.

  2. Select Configure > Import tab.

  3. Select an Import configuration.

  4. For reach of your Import Configurations:

    1. Select the gear iconnext to the import configuration and select Execute Import.

    2. Click Import.

    3. The Finished process in action screen should appear, notifying the process is complete and providing you with information about the time the import took to run and the number of objects imported.

    1. For the Field Type, select All to see all of the custom field types.

    2. Select Insight Object.

    3. Give the custom field the same name as our old asset type configuration.

    4. Associate the new custom field with the relevant screens.

  3. Next, configure the custom field by editing the Insight objects field configuration.

    1. Under the Field Scope section:

      1. Under Object schema, select the relevant object schema.

      2. Under Filter Scope (IQL), enter the IQL from the original Asset type configuration, above.

    2. Under the User Interaction section:

  1. Select the relevant request type in Jira Service Management and modify the request form.

    1. Select Add a field and add your new Insight object custom field.

If you would like to run automation at some future point, to transfer the values from your old Asset type configuration field to your new Insight object custom field, you should ensure that your request type contains both fields.
