Work with a hardware work item
Hardware asset management is available with Jira Service Management Premium and Enterprise.
To work on a hardware work item, you must be a member of the service space it belongs to, with Jira project edit and transition permissions. When completing the work also changes hardware data — such as assigning, transferring, or disposing of hardware — you additionally need Assets create, edit, and delete permissions on the hardware schema.
Open a hardware work item to see everything about the request in one place — its details, the hardware it relates to, and its progress — and move it toward completion.
Open and review a work item
On the Work tab, select a work item to open it.
Review its Summary, description, and fields, and the linked hardware, model, or stockroom the request is about.
Update a work item
Set the Assignee to the person who will handle the work.
Update fields as needed, and add a comment to record progress or reply to the requester.
Move a work item through your workflow
Select the status to transition the work item — for example, from To do to In progress, and then to Done when the work is complete.
Completing certain work items can automatically update your hardware — for example, changing an asset's status or stock level — when the matching automation is enabled. See Hardware request types for what each request is for.
