Get to know the help center editor
This topic is about Modern help centers. Find out which help center you're using.
In a Modern help center, you make all your changes in the help center editor. The editor opens over the help center itself, so you can see your changes in place before your customers do.
To use the editor, you need to be a Jira admin or site admin. Find out who can edit a help center.
Open the editor
To open the editor in a Modern help center:
Select Help centers in the left navigation sidebar.
On the card for the help center you want to edit, select Customize help center (pencil icon).
The toolbar
In the editor of a Modern help center, a toolbar floats at the bottom of the page. It only shows while you're editing. From left to right, it has:
The help center's name.
Components, which opens the Components panel, where you find components to add to the page.
Global styles, which opens the help center's theme: its branding, navigation and fonts.
Pages, which opens the Pages panel, where you find and open the help center's pages.
Rovo settings, which takes you to the help center's Rovo agent settings, in Help centers > Settings > Rovo agent.
Unpublished changes, which shows when you've made changes that your customers can't see yet.
Restore help center, which discards your unpublished changes.
Publish, which makes your changes live.
Close, which closes the editor.
The Pages panel
In a Modern help center, the Pages panel lists the help center's pages in a tree. Under Content, it shows the Home page and folders such as Portals and Topics. To find a page, use Search by title. Select a page to open it in the editor. Learn how to add and organize pages in a help center.
The Components panel
In a Modern help center, the Components panel lists the components you can add to a page, grouped into categories such as Building blocks. To find a component, use Search components, then drag it onto the page where you want it. Learn how to add and arrange components on a page.
When you select a component on the page, its settings open in a side panel, grouped into tabs such as Styles and Content. You can change a component's colors there, such as its background color, to override the theme for that component. Find out what each component does.
The theme
In a Modern help center, the theme applies to every page. To open it, select Global styles in the toolbar. It has three tabs:
Branding: the help center's Brand colors, its Logo, which shows in the navigation bar, and Corners and spacing.
Navigation: the navigation bar at the top of every page. Learn how to customize the navigation bar.
Fonts: the fonts the help center uses.
Your changes apply to all pages. To check them, select View help center in the Global styles panel. Learn how to brand your help centers.
Publish your changes
In a Modern help center, your customers don't see your changes until you publish them. While you have changes they can't see yet, Unpublished changes shows in the toolbar. Your changes are kept until you publish them, even if you leave the editor. When you're ready, select Publish. To discard your unpublished changes instead, select Restore help center, to the left of Publish.
If you switch to another page before you publish, the editor asks you to confirm, so you don't lose your changes by accident.
