Manage stockrooms

Hardware asset management is available with Jira Service Management Premium.

To set it up, you must be a Jira admin and an Assets admin.

To add or update stockrooms, you must have a hardware User or Administrator role, as well as Assets create and edit permissions on the hardware schema where your data resides.

Add stockrooms to represent where you store hardware, and keep them up to date as your storage locations change. Stockrooms are stored as objects in Assets, so adding, editing, and deleting them requires the right Assets permissions on the hardware assets schema.

Add a stockroom

  1. In the left navigation, select Hardware.

  2. From the tabs at the top, select Stockrooms.

  3. Select Add stockroom.

  4. Choose a Stockroom type — for example, central warehouse, regional depot, on-site storage, secure room, IT kiosk, or disposal area.

  5. Enter a name, and optionally set an icon and description.

  6. Set the stockroom's details, such as its Location and Manager.

  7. Save to add the stockroom to the register.

Link a stockroom to a Location (from Geography) rather than typing a full address — this keeps your locations consistent and reusable across hardware asset management.

Import stockrooms

To add stockrooms in bulk, import them from a CSV file. When you start an import from here, you're taken into the standard Assets import flow with the import already scoped to your stockrooms schema.

  1. In the left navigation, select Hardware.

  2. From the tabs at the top, select the Stockrooms tab.

  3. At far-right, next to Add stockroom, select the dropdown and select Import stockroom.

  4. In the Schema settings screen for the stockrooms system schema, select Create import.

  5. Follow the Assets import steps to upload your CSV file, map its columns to the schema, and run the import. For detailed guidance, see Create an import structure in the Assets documentation.

Importing from a CSV file is one of several import methods Assets offers. To use it, you'll need your data already in a CSV file, shaped to fit the schema — its columns need to map to the schema's object types and attributes. If your data is in another system, choose the matching import method in Assets instead.

Edit a stockroom

  1. Open the Stockrooms tab and select the stockroom you want to change.

  2. Update its details — for example, its type, location, manager, or parent stockroom.

  3. Save your changes.

Delete a stockroom

  1. Open the Stockrooms tab and select the stockroom you want to remove.

  2. Select the option to delete the stockroom, then confirm.

Deleting a stockroom removes it from your hardware space. Before you delete, check whether any hardware is stored there or whether stock rules reference it.
