Which help center am I using?
Jira Service Management has two versions of the help center: Modern and Legacy. You customize each version in a different way, so many help topics have separate steps for each one. Use this page to find out which version you're using, then follow the steps for that version.
Check which help center you're using
Every help center is labeled Modern or Legacy. You can check the label in Jira Service Management.
To check in Jira Service Management:
Modern: Select Help centers in the left navigation sidebar. This page lists your Modern help centers.
Legacy: Select Settings (⚙️) at the top right, then Jira apps. Under the Jira Service Management header, select Help center permissions. Then, under Help center management, select View all help centers. This page lists only your Legacy help centers.
The label shows in the navigation, next to the Help centers heading. If your site has both versions, it has two Help centers pages, one labeled Modern and one labeled Legacy, so check the label to see which one you're on.
Your site can have Modern and Legacy help centers at the same time, so check each help center you manage.
How you customize a Modern help center
In a Modern help center, you change the help center in an editor that opens over the page itself. To customize a Modern help center:
Select Help centers in the left navigation sidebar.
On the card for the help center you want to edit, select Customize help center (pencil icon).
A toolbar at the bottom of the page has controls for the theme, the pages in your help center, the components on a page, and publishing your changes.
How you customize a Legacy help center
In a Legacy help center, you change the help center from the Customise menu in its navigation. To customize a Legacy help center:
Select Settings (⚙️) at the top right.
From the dropdown menu, select Jira apps.
Under the Jira Service Management header, select Help center permissions.
Under Help center management, select View all help centers. This page lists your Legacy help centers.
On the card for the help center you want to customize, select … at the top right.
Select Customise look and feel. The help center opens.
Select the Customise button at the top right and use the dropdown menu to manage announcements, customise look and feel, add login page messages, manage topics and portals, and edit the page layout.
Which help centers are Modern
You can only create Modern help centers. This includes the default help center on a new site.
Your existing help centers stay Legacy until you update them. You can keep editing a Legacy help center, or update it to Modern when you're ready. When you update it, you get a Modern copy to review and change. Until you publish the copy, your customers keep using the Legacy help center.
