Manage models
Hardware asset management is available with Jira Service Management Premium and Enterprise.
To set it up, you must be a Jira admin and an Assets admin.
To add, edit, or delete models, you must have a hardware User or Administrator role, as well as Assets create, edit, and delete permissions on the hardware schema where your data resides.
Build up your model catalogue so hardware can reference a shared make and configuration, and keep it up to date as models change or reach end of life. Models are stored as objects in Assets, so adding, editing, and deleting them requires the right Assets permissions on the hardware assets schema.
Add a model
In the left navigation, select Hardware.
From the tabs at the top, select Models.
Select Add model.
Choose a Model type — for example, Desktop.
Enter a name, and optionally set an icon and description.
Set the model's details, such as its Manufacturer,Model number,Chassis type, lifecycle dates (Release date,EOL,EOS), Standard warranty, and Status.
Save to add the model to your catalogue.
Set a model's Status to control how it's used: Approved (standard), Under review,Exception (restricted use), Deprecated (do not procure), or Prohibited (must be retired).
Import models
To add models in bulk, import them from a CSV file. When you start an import from here, you're taken into the standard Assets import flow with the import already scoped to your models schema.
In the left navigation, select Hardware.
From the tabs at the top, select the Models tab.
At far-right, next to Add model, select the ⌄ dropdown and select Import model.
In the Schema settings screen for the models system schema, select Create import.
Follow the Assets import steps to upload your CSV file, map its columns to the schema, and run the import. For detailed guidance, see Create an import structure in the Assets documentation.
Importing from a CSV file is one of several import methods Assets offers. To use it, you'll need your data already in a CSV file, shaped to fit the schema — its columns need to map to the schema's object types and attributes. If your data is in another system, choose the matching import method in Assets instead.
Edit a model
Open the Models tab and select the model you want to change.
Update its details — for example, its status, warranty, or lifecycle dates.
Save your changes.
Delete a model
Open the Models tab and select the model you want to remove.
Select the option to delete the model, then confirm.
Deleting a model removes it from your catalogue. Before you delete, check whether any hardware or stock rules reference it. If a model is no longer procured but is still in use, consider setting its Status to Deprecated instead of deleting it.
