Add and organize pages in a help center

This topic is about Modern help centers. Find out which help center you're using.

In a Modern help center, the site tree shows all the help center's pages and folders. You use it to open a page in the editor, create topic pages and custom pages, group pages into folders and change how the help center is organized.

The site tree also sets the help center's navigation. Each folder shows as a dropdown menu in the navigation bar, with its pages listed under it.

Open the site tree

To open the site tree in a Modern help center:

  1. Select Help centers in the left navigation sidebar.

  2. On the card for the help center you want to edit, select Customize help center (pencil icon).

  3. In the toolbar, select Pages. The Pages panel opens, with the site tree under Content. To find a page, use Search by title.

The site tree shows top-level pages and folders, and the pages inside each folder. A new help center starts with the Home page and the Portals and Topics folders. The Topics folder holds topic pages, which group request forms and knowledge base articles. Select a page to open it in the editor. Select a folder to show or hide its pages.

Pages you can't move or delete

In a Modern help center, some pages are locked to protect your help center. A lock icon shows next to them in the site tree.

  • The home page can't be moved or deleted.

  • The login page and portal pages can be moved, but not deleted.

Create a topic page

In a Modern help center, a topic page groups request forms and knowledge base articles on a page of its own. Topic pages are available on all plans.

Create a custom page

Custom pages are only available on Jira Service Management Premium and Enterprise plans. On Standard, you can create topic pages, which hold request forms and knowledge base articles only. Read more about plans and pricing.

In a Modern help center, custom pages let you add your own content, such as a page for new starters or a page about a service. They replace landing pages from Legacy help centers. There's no limit on how many custom pages you can create.

In a Modern help center, each page has a title, a description and a URL. You can only edit the details of topic pages and custom pages. The title shows in the site tree and in the navigation bar.

To edit a page's details in a Modern help center:

  1. Open the site tree.

  2. Open the page's actions menu (•••), then select Edit details.

  1. Open the site tree.

  2. Open the page's or folder's actions menu (•••), then select Delete.
