Manage hardware
Hardware asset management is available with Jira Service Management Premium and Enterprise.
To add, edit, or delete hardware, you must have a hardware User or Administrator role, as well as Assets create, edit, and delete permissions on the hardware schema where your data resides.
Add hardware to track individual devices, and keep it up to date as it's assigned, moved, and retired. Hardware is stored as objects in Assets, so adding, editing, and deleting it requires the right Assets permissions on the hardware assets schema.
Do this with Rovo
You can manage your hardware settings using Rovo. Open Rovo Chat and type /hardware-configuration and describe the change you want to make — for example, "map a request type to a project", "update depreciation rules", or "add a new stockroom". Rovo previews the change and asks you to confirm before applying it. Some changes also require your Assets permissions.
Add hardware
In the left navigation, select Hardware.
From the tabs at the top, select Hardware.
Select Add hardware.
Choose a Hardware type — for example, Laptop. This is required.
Enter a Name, and optionally set an icon and description.
Set the asset's details, such as its Asset tag,Serial number,Model,Status,Primary user,Location, and financial details like Purchase date and Purchase price.
Select Add. To add several in a row, select Create another before you add.
Import hardware
To add hardware in bulk, import it from a CSV file. When you start an import from here, you're taken into the standard Assets import flow with the import already scoped to your hardware schema.
In the left navigation, select Hardware.
From the tabs at the top, select the Hardware tab.
At far-right, next to Add hardware, select the ⌄ dropdown and select Import hardware.
In the Schema settings screen for the Hardware assets system schema, select Create import.
Follow the Assets import steps to upload your CSV file, map its columns to the hardware assets schema, and run the import. For detailed guidance, see Create an import structure in the Assets documentation.
Importing from a CSV file is one of several import methods Assets offers. To use it, you'll need your data already in a CSV file, shaped to fit the hardware assets system schema — its columns need to map to the schema's object types and attributes. If your data is in another system, choose the matching import method in Assets instead.
Edit hardware
Open the Hardware tab and select the item you want to change.
Update its details — for example, reassign it to a new Primary user, change its Location, or update its Status.
Save your changes.
Change an asset's Status to reflect its lifecycle — for example, from In stock to In use when it's assigned, or to Retired when it's taken out of service. Many status changes also happen automatically as you complete the related work items (see Track hardware work).
Delete hardware
Open the Hardware tab and select the item you want to remove.
Select the option to delete it, then confirm.
Deleting hardware removes it from your register and breaks its links to people, locations, and work items. If a device is no longer in service but you need to keep its history, set its Status to Retired or Disposed instead of deleting it.
