Manage hardware types
Hardware asset management is available with Jira Service Management Premium and Enterprise.
To manage hardware types, you must have the hardware Administrator role and Assets view permissions on the hardware schema where your data resides.
A hardware type is a category of hardware you track in hardware asset management, such as laptops, monitors, or phones. Each hardware type maps to an object type in the Hardware schema in Assets, and the objects in that object type are the individual pieces of hardware you track.
Hardware settings control which types are included. Adding a hardware type brings its objects into:
Hardware register — the inventory of every object you're tracking.
Dashboards — reporting across your tracked hardware.
Insights — trends and recommendations based on those objects.
Removing a hardware type doesn't delete anything from Assets; its objects simply stop being tracked in hardware asset management.
Do this with Rovo
You can manage hardware types using Rovo. Open Rovo Chat and type /hardware-configuration and describe what you want — for example, "add Laptops to Hardware". Rovo previews the change and asks you to confirm before applying it.
Add a hardware type
In the left navigation, select Hardware.
Select More actions (...) to the right, then select Hardware settings.
On the Hardware tab, select Manage on the top right.
Choose the hardware type to add.
Save the selection.
Remove a hardware type
Locate the hardware type you want to remove.
Select the option to remove it in the Actions column, then confirm. The objects within that hardware type will no longer be tracked within hardware.
