You can link issues to keep track of duplicate or related work. You can, for example: 

  • create a new linked issue from an existing issue in a service desk or business project
  • create an association between an issue and a Confluence page
  • link an issue to any other web page

Make sure you have the link issues project permission before getting started. Note that your Jira administrator can customize the types of links that you can create.

To an issue in the same Jira site

  1. Open the issue that you want to link to.
  2. Click more (•••) > Link > Jira Issue (or click the quick-add button  in the new issue view)
  3. Choose the type of issue link (for example, "this issue is blocked by...").
  4. Specify the issue(s) you want to link to by either:

To link issues and add content from Marketplace apps in the new issue view, use the quick-add buttons below the issue summary.

To an issue on another Jira site

Your Jira administrator will first need to configure fully reciprocal application links between your two Jira sites. To create a link to another Jira site: 

  1. Open the issue that you want to link to. 
  2. Click more (•••) > Link > Jira Issue.
  3. Choose the relevant Jira site and the type of issue link.
  4. Enter the issue key or search for the issues you want to link. Note that you can link to any issue that you have access to on the other Jira site. 
  5. Check the Create reciprocal link option to create a link back to the original issue from the issues you just selected. issue. For example, if you create a "blocks" link type to issue ABC-123, the reciprocal link generated on ABC-123 will be an "is blocked by" link type back to your original issue.
  6. Add a comment to describe why you are linking these issues and click Link.

To a Confluence page

Your Jira administrator will first need to create an application link between your Jira and Confluence Cloud sites. To create a link to a Confluence page: 

  1. Open the issue that you want to link to a Confluence page. 
  2. Select more (•••) > Link > Confluence Page (or click the quick-add button  in the new issue view).
  3. Choose the relevant Confluence site and specify the Confluence page you want to link to. You can either enter the exact page URL (e.g. http://<confluence-server>/display/ds/Welcome+to+the+Confluence+Demonstration+Space) or search for the page. 
  4. Add a comment to describe why you're linking these issues and click Link.

To a specific URL

  1. Open the issue you want to link to a webpage. 
  2. Select more (•••) > Link > Web Link
  3. Enter the URL of the webpage you want to link to and choose the link text that will appear in the Issue Link section.
  4. Add a comment to describe why you are linking these issues and click Link.
  1. Open an issue with links that you want to remove. 
  2. In the Issue Links section, hover your mouse over the link and click the delete (trashcan) icon that appears.

Search for linked issues
