We're updating our terminology in Jira

'Issue' is changing to 'work item'. You might notice some inconsistencies while this big change takes place.

Add dependencies to a journey

The features described in this article are only available to those participating in the early access program (EAP) for journeys in Jira Service Management.

Dependencies can pause the progress of a journey by stopping subsequent work items from being created. These allow you to determine the order in which work gets done by making work items dependent on the status of other work items. In order for dependencies to work, a workflow transition needs to occur. For example, a ‘Get IT help’ needs to transition from In progress to Done for the dependency to register; it can’t be created in a Done status.

Add a dependency

  1. Select Add (+) anywhere on the journey between two work items where you’d like to add a dependency and select Add dependency.

  2. Select the type of dependency that will stop subsequent work items from being created.

    1. Only a status change dependency is currently supported.

  3. Select the work items you’d like the dependency to apply to.

  4. Select the status categories you’d like the dependency to apply to.

  5. Select Add dependency.

Edit a dependency

  1. Select Actions (…) next to the dependency you wish to edit.

  2. Select Edit dependency.

Only In progress and Done status categories are supported at this time.
