View your work items in a list

You can view and manage work items across your Jira Service Management spaces using the list view. Like the boards and calendar views, the list is a different way to view your work items, allowing for them to be quickly scanned and sorted by field. You can also use the list to create, edit, and view work items in your space.

There are two ways to view your work items in a list format: in Queues and Views. Each location offers different capabilities designed for different use cases.

Read more about enabling different views in your space.

List in Queues

Queues are ususally the default landing pages for agents and the preferred way for teams to view and manage work items. Each queue is scoped to a single space (previously called a project) and is typically configured by admins to help teams triage, prioritize, and action work items based on specific criteria such as status, service level agreement (SLA), or request type.

To view a list of work items, in your space select Queues from the sidebar. Select any queue, then select the List tab to open the list view of your work items.

Key features and limitations:

  • Each queue shows work items from only one space.

  • Queues are highly structured and often used for team-wide workflows.

  • You can perform some bulk actions (like assign, transition, or comment) on selected items.

  • Filtering and sorting options are limited compared to Views.

  • Customization (such as column management and grouping) is more restricted.

  • Some actions, like inline editing or advanced filtering, are not available.

List in Views

Views introduces a more flexible, spreadsheet-like list view that allows you to see and manage work items from multiple spaces in a single unified list. This is ideal for agents or managers who work across several teams or service areas.

To view a list of work items, in your project select Views then the List tab to see your work items in a list or table format.

Key features and capabilities:

  • See work items from multiple spaces in one list.

  • Filter, group, and sort by status, priority, request type, and more.

  • Use advanced filters with JQL (Jira Query Language) for custom views.

  • Edit work items inline, similar to a spreadsheet (update fields, assign, change status).

  • Perform bulk actions, including bulk edit and delete.

  • Manage columns directly in the table (resize, add, remove, reorder).

  • Auto-refresh ensures your list stays up to date without manual refresh.

  • More flexible and personal, allowing users to create and save their own views without impacting others.

When to use each list view

  • Use Queues when you need a structured, team-wide workflow for a single space, especially if you rely on SLAs and standardized triage.

  • Use Views when you want to manage work across multiple spaces, need more flexibility in filtering and editing, or prefer a spreadsheet-like experience.
