What is a custom filter?
A custom filter is a saved and reusable search term that helps you find work items in team-managed spaces. Custom filters are defined by queries, which are written using JQL (Jira Query Language). These filters are only applicable to the board and backlog, and are limited to a single space.
If you’re a space admin, you can manage custom filters by going to your board or backlog, then selecting More actions (), then Manage custom filters. You can also access this page by following these steps:
Next to the name of your space in the sidebar, select More actions (•••), then Space settings.
Select Board, then Custom filters.
Create a custom filter
To create a custom filter in team-managed spaces:
From your board or backlog, select More actions (), then Manage custom filters.
Select Create custom filter.
Enter a name and description for your filter.
Enter a filter query using JQL (Jira Query Language) to tell Jira what work items you’re looking for. As you type, Jira will validate your query and offer a list of autocomplete suggestions based on your query’s context.
Once your query is validated, select Create.
Edit a custom filter
To edit a custom filter in team-managed spaces:
From your board or backlog, select More actions (), then Manage custom filters.
Find the filter you’d like to edit and select More actions (), then Edit.
From here, you can edit the name, description, and query for your custom filter.
To save your changes, select Update.
Delete a custom filter
To delete a custom filter in team-managed spaces:
From your board or backlog, select More actions (), then Manage custom filters.
Find the filter you’d like to edit and select More actions (), then Delete.
Select Delete in the confirmation modal to finalize your action.
Note that deleting a custom filter won’t remove any work items from your space.
