Integrate Jira Cloud and Microsoft Teams

The Jira Cloud for Microsoft Teams app brings your Jira work into Teams, so you can create work items, get notifications, and take action without ever leaving your conversations. Whether you're triaging a bug in a channel, assigning a ticket to a teammate, or checking the status of a work item, it's all available right from Teams.

To get started, install the Jira Cloud app from the Microsoft Teams app store.

You can use the Jira app for Microsoft Teams to create, update, and assign Jira work items by describing what you need from any Teams channel or chat.

Before you begin

  • The Jira Cloud app must be installed in Microsoft Teams. You can install it from the Teams app store.

  • After installing, you'll be guided to sign in to your Atlassian account to link Teams and Jira. This takes about a minute.

  • Once connected, you'll get a message from the Jira Cloud app in Teams.

  • To use Jira in a team channel or meeting chat, the Jira Cloud app must be added to that channel or meeting first.

  • If your organization has multiple Jira Cloud sites, you'll be asked to select a site when connecting spaces or setting up notifications.

Your Microsoft Teams administrator may need to allow the Jira Cloud app before you can install it. If you can't find the app in the Teams app store, ask your Teams administrator to permit it.

What you can do from Microsoft Teams

  • Quick actions with AI: Create, update, and assign Jira work items directly from any Teams conversation.

  • Search from the app chat: Find work items by search phrase or work item key straight from the Jira Cloud app chat, without going to Jira.

  • Create via the message menu: Turn any Teams message into a Jira work item in a couple of clicks. Rovo pre-fills the details.

  • Link previews: Paste a Jira link to get a live card showing status, work type, assignee, and priority, with actions to comment, edit, or open in Jira.

  • Tabs: Pin a Jira Cloud tab to a team, channel, or meeting so everyone can see work items they've recently viewed, worked on, or been assigned.

  • Personal notifications: Get notified about your work items directly in the Jira Cloud app chat.

  • Channel notifications: Subscribe a channel to a Jira space so the right team gets the right updates at the right time.

  • Commands: Configure the app, find work items, manage notifications, and request support using short prompts.

Security controls

Jira permissions are respected

The app respects existing Jira permissions at both the work item and administration levels. You'll only ever see and interact with work items you have permission to access in Jira.

Work item-level security

If your Jira site uses work-item-level security schemes, Teams notifications will not be sent for work items with security restrictions applied. Read more about work item security schemes

Privacy considerations

Your data and personal information are encrypted for added security. In a team, channel, or meeting chat, the Jira Cloud app only responds when it is mentioned with @Jira.
