Automatically assign work items to people
If you’re creating or editing a work item and don’t know who to assign it to, you can choose the Automatic option for the Assignee field, which will do one of the following:
If there are component(s) on a work item, the work item will be assigned to the Default assignee of one of the components. Project admins can change the Default assignee of components by going to a project and then selecting:
Next to your project's name in the sidebar, select More actions (•••), then Project settings.
Select Components. More about organizing work with components.
If there are no components with default assignees on a work item, the work item will be assigned to the project’s Default assignee. Admins can change the project’s Default assignee by going to a project and then selecting:
Next to your project's name in the sidebar, select More actions (•••), then Project settings.
Select Details.
