Automatically assign work items to people
If you’re creating or editing a work item and don’t know who to assign it to, you can choose the Automatic option for the Assignee field. This behaves a bit differently depending on whether or not there are components on the work item that have default assignees.
When there are components
If there are component(s) on a work item, the work item will be assigned to the Default assignee of one of the components. Space admins can change the Default assignee of components by doing the following:
Next to the name of your space in the sidebar, select More actions (•••), then Space settings.

When there are no components with default assignees
If there are no components with default assignees on a work item, the work item will be assigned to the space’s Default assignee. Admins can change the space’s Default assignee by doing the following

Select Details.
