Create and update Jira work from Microsoft Teams

With the Jira Cloud app installed, you can create a Jira work item from a Teams message using the message action menu. This flow is available with or without Rovo. If Rovo is available, it can pre-fill the summary and description from the message. If Rovo isn't available, you can enter those fields manually.

Create a work item from a Teams message

  1. Go to your team, channel, or meeting chat.

  2. Find the message you want to create a work item from and select More options ().

  3. Select Create work item in Jira.

  4. Choose a Jira site and space.

  5. If it isn't already selected, select Use Rovo to generate the summary and description. The app remembers your previous selection and applies it each time until you change it.

  6. Review the auto-filled summary and description, or fill them in yourself if you didn't use Rovo.

  7. Fill in any additional details as required.

  8. Select Create to create the work item.

Descriptions follow a predefined format based on the work type for consistency, and the content is automatically localized to match your Microsoft Teams language settings.

Rovo gathers context only from the selected message in your team, channel, or meeting chat. It doesn't have access to the wider message thread. To give Jira the full conversation as context, mention @Jira instead.

Preview and action work items in Teams

  1. Share a link to a work item in a team, channel, or meeting chat.

  2. Sign in to your Atlassian account to view the full link preview.

  3. The link will display the status, work type, assignee, and priority of the work item.

  4. Select Comment, Edit, or Open in Jira to action the work item from Teams.

For a seamless experience, the Jira Cloud app installs in chats and channels when someone shares a preview link. To share a Jira link without triggering auto-installation, select when the preview of the link is displayed.
