Get started with Jira Cloud and Microsoft Teams

The Jira Cloud app appears in the left toolbar in Microsoft Teams, alongside your chats and teams. This is your personal chat with the app, where you can search for work items, manage your notifications, and take action on your work.

Install the Jira Cloud app

  1. Select Apps from the left toolbar in Teams.

  2. Enter Jira Cloud in the app search bar.

  3. Find Jira Cloud and select Add.

  4. Select Add for me from the drop-down menu in the app modal.

  5. Follow the sign in prompts to complete your installation.

Connect your Jira site

  1. Select Jira Cloud from the left toolbar in Teams.

  2. Enter Configure in the Jira Cloud chat.

  3. Sign in to your Atlassian account if you're prompted to.

  4. Select the Jira Cloud site you want to use.

If your organization has more than one Jira Cloud site, you can change the site you're connected to at any time by entering Configure again.

Find work items from the Jira Cloud app chat

You can search Jira from your personal chat with the Jira Cloud app, without opening Jira or a channel. Jira responds with the relevant work item details and available actions.

  1. Select Jira Cloud from the left toolbar in Teams.

  2. Enter Find in the Jira Cloud chat.

  3. Enter a search phrase or a work item key, for example MSD-19.

  4. Review the Jira response to see the relevant work item details and take action.

Search results respect your Jira permissions, so you'll only see work items you already have access to. Results in your personal chat are visible only to you.

Take action on your work items

For any work item returned in the app chat or shown in a link preview, you can:

  • Use Edit to update fields such as the assignee and status.

  • Comment on it directly.

Sign out

Enter Sign out in the Jira Cloud chat to sign out of your Atlassian account. Signing out does not remove your existing channel subscriptions.

Uninstall the Jira Cloud app

  1. Find Jira Cloud in the left toolbar in Teams.

  2. Right-click, or secondary click, the Jira Cloud icon.

  3. Select Uninstall.

  4. Select Remove to uninstall Jira Cloud.
