We’re updating our terminology in Jira

The term ‘project’ will soon be replaced with 'space'. You may notice some inconsistencies while we make this change.

Manage subtasks in team-managed spaces

This page is for team-managed spaces

To check whether your space is team-managed or company-managed, select More actions (•••) next to the space name in either the header or the sidebar. At the bottom of the menu that opens, your space details will be shown.

If you're in a company-managed space, check out these company-managed space articles instead.

More about the difference between company-managed and team-managed space.

In Jira, a work item can have subtasks that can be assigned and tracked individually. This allows you to break down the work in your project to smaller, more manageable pieces. See how to convert work items to subtasks.

Add a subtask work type

Subtask work types are different from regular work types. By default, team-managed spaces have subtask work types enabled. If your space doesn’t have the subtask work type, you’ll need to add it:

  1. Navigate to your team-managed software space.

  2. Next to the name of your space in the sidebar, select More actions (•••), then Space settings.

  3. Select Work types, then Add work type.

  4. [サブタスク] を選択します。

サブタスクの作成

You can create subtasks under any standard work items, like stories, bugs, or tasks. Unlike in company-managed spaces, subtasks can’t be nested directly beneath work items at the Epic level.

To create a subtask from a work item:

  1. Navigate to the work item under which you want to make a subtask.

  2. Select Add then Child work item.

  3. サブタスクの説明を入力し、[作成] を選択します。

ボードからサブタスクを作成するには以下を実行します。

  1. On the board of your team-managed space, next to Group by, select Subtask (space admins only).

  2. Select Create work item (+) to create a subtask under that work item.

Once created, the space admin can view these subtasks on the team-managed board by selecting Subtasks from the Group by dropdown. The parent level work items of the subtasks (which is to say story-level work items) show in the headers for each swimlane work items, and the cards underneath represent subtasks.
