How can I plan with releases on my project timeline?

This page refers to the timeline view in Jira and not your plan, the cross-project planning tool only available as part of Jira Cloud Premium and Enterprise.

Unless otherwise noted, the timeline view in Jira is the same for both company-managed and team-managed projects.

Releases and Fix versions are essential for teams that incrementally ship work. You can include them on your project timeline to help create a plan that aligns with releases. Learn how to show or hide releases on your timeline.

Once enabled, Jira shows releases created in your project along the top of the timeline. When using the Weeks view, the release icon is placed at the end of the day which it’s scheduled to go out.

The color of each release icon tells you about its status:

  • a green dot indicates the release has already been shipped

  • a red dot indicates the release is behind schedule

  • a blue dot indicates a future release
