How can I plan with releases on my software project's timeline?

To check whether you’re in a software or business project, select More actions (•••) next to the project name in either the header or the sidebar. At the bottom of the menu that opens, your project details will be shown.

This feature is currently rolling out and may not be on your site yet.

Releases and Fix versions are essential for teams that incrementally ship work. You can include them on your project timeline to help create a plan that aligns with releases. Learn how to show or hide releases on your timeline.

Once enabled, Jira shows releases created in your project along the top of the timeline. When using the Weeks view, the release icon is placed at the end of the day which it’s scheduled to go out.

The color of each release icon tells you about its status:

  • a green dot indicates the release has already been shipped

  • a red dot indicates the release is behind schedule

  • a blue dot indicates a future release

Select a release icon to reveal more information about it, such as name of the release, its current status, and the release description:
