Connect an incident management tool to Jira

Follow these instructions to install and set up an incident management app, connect an incident management tool to Jira, and view incidents impacting your team’s services in a project.

Before you begin

Before you can view incidents in your project, you’ll first need to:

  1. Install an app for your incident management tool

  2. Set up the app to work with Jira

  3. Connect services to your Jira project

Install an app for your incident management tool

Find and install the Atlassian Marketplace app for your incident management tool.

You’ll need Jira site admin permissions to install and set up an app.

  1. Make sure the incident feature is enabled in your project.

  2. From your project's sidebar, select Incidents.

  3. Select Connect a tool, then choose your incident management tool.

  4. Review the information about your incident management tool’s app, then select Get it now to install it on your Jira site.

Set up the app with Jira

  1. Once the app is installed, select Set up. Follow the on-screen instructions, as each app's set-up process may be different.

    1. Your incidenet management tool may ask you to log in, verify credentials, allow Jira access, or generate an API key.

  2. When the app setup is complete, return to Jira to connect services from your incident management tool to your project.

If your Jira site or project admin disconnects your incident management tool, all incidents data and PIRs associated with the tool will be deleted.

Connect services to your project

If you remove a service, the incident data and post-incident reviews (PIRs) associated with the service will no longer appear in the incidents feature. However, if you reconnect the service, its incident data and PIRs will reappear.

If your team’s service aren’t connected, go the incidents feature:

  1. Select Connect services.

  2. Search or select the services your team manages.

  3. After you have selected services, select Connect.

Once services are connected, your team can use the incidents feature to view incdients impacting the services your team manages within that project, link them to issues, and create PIRs.
