We’re updating our terminology in Jira

The term ‘project’ will soon be replaced with 'space'. You may notice some inconsistencies while we make this change.

How do features differ based on project type?

Jira spaces come with features tailored to the type of work you want to carry out. For example, software spaces come with features like a board and backlog. Service spaces come with features like a queue and customer portal.

In team-managed software spaces, you can enable and disable different features to suit your team's needs. For example, you can add a backlog when your board gets too busy. And, you can do this at any time during the lifetime of your space. Find out more about team-managed features.

In company-managed spaces, Jira couples features with the space template used to create a space. Once you've picked a template, you're locked into the features that come with it. Find out about company-managed space templates.
