Add, rename, or delete a column in team-managed business projects
This page is for business spaces
To check whether you’re in a business or software space, select More actions (•••) next to the space name in either the header or the sidebar. At the bottom of the menu that opens, your space details will be shown.
If you’re using a team-managed business project, you can make updates to your project’s workflow directly on the board, without needing to navigate to the project settings.
Columns on the board are controlled by your project’s workflow, so updates made to your board’s columns will be reflected in your workflow. Read more about workflows
Work items on the board must be grouped by status (which is the default) to add, edit, or delete columns from the board.
You can only add, edit, or delete columns on the board if your project uses a single workflow.
You must have the following to do the things described on this page.
Role:
a project administrator for the location of the board
a board administrator for the board itself
By default, a board's columns are assigned the default Jira statuses To do, In progress, and Done. You can change this to suit your way of working.
For example, you may create a custom status to capture work In review, and you'll probably want to map that status to an appropriate column on your board, too.
All team-managed projects start out with the Jira default workflow. This means default columns are assigned a default status, like this:

Add a column in your business project’s board
Creating a new column on the Board will create an associated status. The newly added column will contain a status in the status category you select (To do, In progress, or Done). More about status categories
To add a column to your board:
Select Create status () next to the rightmost column.
Give your status a name.
Select Submit to create the new column and associated status.
You can rearrange columns to suit how you’d like them to be ordered in the workflow. How to rearrange columns on the board
To change the status, or statuses, associated with specific column, you could either:
From your board, go to More actions (), then select Configure columns.
Select (drag and drop) a status from an existing column, or from the Hidden statuses panel, and pop it in it’s new column.
Or,
Navigate to a specific column. From More actions (), select Add a new status from dropdown.
Rename a column in your business project’s board
To rename a column on your board:
Select the text in the column you want to rename. Alternatively, select More actions (•••), then Rename.
Enter a new name for the column.
Select the tick symbol or press return (Mac) or Enter (Windows) on your keyboard.
Delete a column in your business project’s board
To delete a column from your board:
Select More actions (•••) in the top-right corner of the column you want to delete.
Select Delete.
