FAQ import data from HTML to Confluence

Who has permission to import?

All users who can create spaces will also be able to import HTML files into Confluence. If you can’t import, reach out to your admin and check your space permissions.

How do I increase my attachment size limit?

You’ll need to reach out to your admin to do so.

Admin-only:

To import your HTML content into Confluence, ensure that your file size limit exceeds the size of the file you are importing. Follow these steps:

  1. Select the gear icon to navigate to Settings > Global permissions.

  2. Go to the General Configuration section.

  3. Scroll down to the Attachment Size setting and increase the byte size to be larger than your HTML zipfile.

To increase the file size only temporarily, after the import, revert to the original limit.

Can I restrict content to be only visible to me?

Yes! You can set Only visible to me in the permissions section of the the Set up space step. We recommend that you restrict sensitive spaces and then remove restrictions for non-sensitive spaces, rather than using open permissions initially. This way, you won’t accidentally reveal any sensitive information.

Private pages will transfer to a new, restricted space.

Note: Because only you will be able to access the Restricted to you content, all pages and comments will be labeled as created by you (the importing user).

What file type can I upload?

You can only upload a .zip file containing a folder (the name of the folder will apply as the space name) containing .html files. The name of the .html file will become the name of the created page, and any supplemental media used in the page must be stored in a folder with the same name as the page. Any unsupported media will be ignored.

Are there any storage limits?

Our Premium and Enterprise plans offer unlimited storage. Pick your plan and enter your team size in our price calculator to see if your plan will be affected by adding users. If you exceed your storage limit for the Standard or Free plan because of the import process, we will attempt to automatically offer you a free trial on the plan that fits your storage limits. If we can’t do this automatically, we will show a banner that says you have 14 days to reduce storage or convert to a different plan.
