Fresh terminology for automation rules and components

An automation ‘rule’ is now a ‘flow', and a ‘component’ is now a 'step’. You may notice some inconsistencies in the documentation while we make this change. Read more about the updates in Automation

Build flows and diagrams with lines

Whiteboards aren’t available in Atlassian Government environments.

Use lines to create paths between sticky notes, text objects, and shapes. They help you organize your whiteboard and create a flow of thought.

You can customize the color, endpoints, and stroke weight of all your lines, including specialized line styles you can use to create process flows, system diagrams, and more.

In whiteboards, you can use:

  • Straight lines: A direct path between elements on your whiteboard. Straight lines always remain straight, regardless of how they’re resized or moved around.

  • Curved lines: A curved path between two elements on your whiteboard. The curve changes as you move the endpoints or connected elements.

  • Dynamic lines: A path between elements on your whiteboard that dynamically changes shape as you resize it and move the components attached to it around.

Create a line

Select the line menu icon in the toolbar or press L.

The whiteboards toolbar with the Line tool selected.

With the line tool selected, you can choose a line style:

  • Select a color (gray is the default).

  • Select a Dotted, Dashed, or Solid line (Solid is the default).

  • Select a Straight, Curved, or Dynamic line (Dynamic is the default).

You can create lines in three ways:

  • Drag and drop: Drag the selected line style onto the whiteboard.

  • Draw new lines: Use your cursor to select the first endpoint of your new line, drag the line, and then select the second endpoint.

  • Make connections: Connect two whiteboard elements, such as shapes, sticky notes, sections, oandJira work items.

    1. Select an element, then select one of the connectors on the bounding box.

    2. Drag the line to another element, connecting it to a connector on its bounding box. When you move one of the connected elements, the line will change shape to stay connected.

An animation shows a line connecting two sticky notes. The line changes shape a sticky note is dragged across the whiteboard.

Style a line

Select a line to open the floating toolbar and access additional styles.

Change a line’s shape

Create custom lines with multiple curves and angles on dynamic and curved lines.
