FAQ import data from Notion to Confluence

What content gets transferred?

You can import your content, users, and workspaces from Notion into a Confluence space with the importing tool. When you use OAuth and access tokens, the importer will also include @mentions, creator, editor information, permissions, and user group information.

Standard formatting like headings, lists, quotes, and dividers will show up on Confluence the same way they appeared in Notion. Some of the complex content, like To-do lists and Info panels will retain the content, but may look a little different. We are planning on fixing these for future releases.

The content formatting we preserve includes:

  • @mentions

  • Attachments

  • Bulleted lists

  • Dates

  • Dividers

  • Emojis

  • Header images

  • Headings

  • Images

  • Numbered lists

  • Page comments (Notion’s “Top level page discussions”)

  • Quotes

  • Static tables (Notion’s “Databases”)

  • Table data

Can I restrict private content?

Yes! You can set Restricted to you in the permissions section of the the Set up spaces step. We recommend that you restrict sensitive spaces and then remove restrictions for non-sensitive spaces, rather than using open permissions initially. This way, you won’t accidentally reveal any sensitive information.

Private pages will transfer to a new, restricted space.

Note: Because only you will be able to access the Restricted to you content, all pages and comments will be labeled as created by you (the importing user).

Are there any storage limits?

Our Premium and Enterprise plans offer unlimited storage. Pick your plan and enter your team size in our price calculator to see if your plan will be affected by adding users. If you exceed your storage limit for the Standard or Free plan because of the import process, we will attempt to automatically offer you a free trial on the plan that fits your storage limits. If we can’t do this automatically, we will show a banner that says you have 14 days to reduce storage or convert to a different plan.

Are there limits for people?

Check out our user tier table to see if adding users because of the import process will affect your plan. You can also enter your team size in our price calculator to see if your plan will be affected. Like storage, we will attempt to automatically offer you a free trial on the plan that fits your user limits. If we can’t do this automatically, we will show a banner that says you have 14 days to remove users or convert to a different plan.

What happens to my Free plan if I select Add remaining members to Confluence?

Similar to the two sections above, if you exceed your user or storage limit, we will attempt to offer you a 14-day free trial of the plan that meets your needs. If we can’t do this automatically, we will add a banner that let’s you know you have 14 days to remove the users, reduce the storage, or convert to a paid plan.

Can I add Notion guests?

We do not import guest accounts from Notion (even if you enable Add additional users). However, you can invite guests to a Confluence space via admin.atlassian.com.

What happens if you do not have access to the teamspaces in the uploaded Notion file?

We will still continue to import those teamspaces and pages, however, we will restrict to you (the importing user).

What happens when you import content not selected in the Transfer users/OAuth authentication step?

If you didn’t select certain teamspaces or pages during the Map Notion members to their Confluence profiles step, but those teamspaces or pages exist in the uploaded Notion file, we will import the content, but restrict it to the to you (the importing user).

What happens to private and shared Notion pages?

We will import all private and shared pages created by the importing user in a new private space, restricted to only the importing user. If any private and shared pages are not created by importing user, we will not create them.

How do I increase my attachment size limit?

To import your Notion content into Confluence, ensure that your file size limit exceeds the size of the file you are importing. Follow these steps:

  1. Select the gear icon to navigate to Settings > Global permissions.

  2. Go to the General Configuration section.

  3. Scroll down to the Attachment Size setting and increase the byte size to be larger than your Notion file.

To increase the file size only temporarily, after the import, revert to the original limit.

Why can’t I see and select pages in the Notion OAuth modal?

Notion only allows users to connect integrations to pages they have “full access” to. Ensure that you have “full access” to the pages that you’d like to connect. Note: this is not the same as “can edit” permissions.

Will using this feature increase my bill, and can I see the estimated impact before adding users?

Using this feature will only increase your bill if you choose to "add remaining members to Confluence" and there are additional members being added. During the Users step, you will find a section labeled "up to X users," which provides an estimate of the maximum number of new users that could be added to Confluence.
