Export permissions data to understand access across your site
You can export your site’s permissions data to get a clear picture of how users have access to spaces across your site. You can get 2 data sets:
all unique permissions combinations, ordered by most used
full access lists for each space
Preparing for your transition to role-based access
Exporting your permissions data is particularly useful for planning a transition from the old access model that relies on assigning individual space permissions combinations to users to the new model that relies on assigning a role to users.
With your site’s permissions data, you can better plan what custom roles to create and who to assign which role to.
Confluence roles are currently in beta for sites created before November 2025.
Export your permissions data
Go to Confluence settings.
Under Admin tools, select Export permissions data.
Select Export all permissions combinations.
Select Start export.
Or, to export all user permissions:
Select Export all user permissions in spaces.
Choose which spaces to include in the export.
Select Start export.
Data included in permissions combination export
A unique identifier for each permissions combination
The total number of spaces the combination is used in
The total number of time the combinations is used
If the combination matches an existing role on the site, and which role
Which permissions are included in each combination

User type
User ID
User display name
If a role is assigned, which role
Permissions combination ID
If no role is assigned, whether the permissions combination matches an existing role on the site
Which permissions are included in the access the user is assigned
