Review and approve billing for Opsgenie migration
Migrating from Opsgenie to Jira Service Management or Compass involves a billing transition. The migration can only proceed once the billing admin reviews and approves the migration request. If billing isn't approved before the deadline, the migration will be canceled, and the process must be restarted.
Approve billing as a billing admin
If you’re the billing admin, follow these steps to approve the migration request:
Once the Opsgenie Owner selects a plan and schedules a data migration date, Atlassian will send you an approval request mail. Keep an eye on your notifications and inbox.
When you get the notification, select the Review and approve billing button in your email or redirect to Billing page from your notification.
You can also go to Atlassian Admin > Billing to review migration details.
On the Billing page, check the selected product, plan, and user seats for Jira Service Management or Compass. Ensure the billing address and tax information are correct.
If everything looks correct, approve the request before the deadline. If changes are needed, contact your Opsgenie Owner or Atlassian Partner.
Once approved, the migration will proceed automatically on the scheduled date.
How billing approval works
The billing approval process varies based on how your Opsgenie and destination product (Jira Service Management or Compass) are billed.
Customer-managed billing, when migrating to a new site
If your Opsgenie billing is managed directly (without an Atlassian Partner):
Opsgenie Owner (who is also a Site Admin) selects a migration plan, schedules a migration date and selects the Jira Service Management or Compass plan.
Once the migration is scheduled, we’ll create a new, trial instance of the product and plan you’ve selected. Your existing billing admin will be notified via email and in-app notification, with details of the selected plan, user seats, and tax information.
If there are multiple billing admins in your site, all will receive similar notifications. If you don’t have a billing admin, as the Opsgenie Owner you can select a billing method and manage all billing details.
The billing admin must approve the request at least 24 hours before the migration date. If not approved in time, the migration is automatically canceled, and the Opsgenie admin must restart the process.
Once billing is approved, the migration will proceed automatically on the scheduled date.
If the destination product (Jira Service Management or Compass) already exists and has enough available seats, billing approval isn’t required, and the migration plan is automatically approved.
In some cases, the trial for your destination product may be extended to make up for any unused time left on your Opsgenie plan, based on current policy.
If you don’t add payment details to convert the trial to a paid subscription before your migration date (or before the trial expires, whichever comes first), your migration will be automatically canceled.
Customer-managed billing, when migrating to an existing site (Monthly subscription)
If your organization already has Jira Service Management or Compass on a monthly subscription, new Opsgenie users will be automatically provisioned without billing admin approval. Your migration will move forward once scheduled, and new users will be added to your existing plan.
Partner-managed billing
If your Opsgenie or destination product billing is managed by an Atlassian Partner, the approval process works differently:
Instead of the Opsgenie Owner choosing a plan, the Atlassian Partner works with Atlassian to approve the billing.
Once the partner approves the plan, the Plan your migration button becomes active.
Since billing is already approved, the admin only needs to select a migration date.
Responsibilities of the Opsgenie admins
As an Opsgenie admin, you don’t approve billing, but you should ensure that your billing admin completes this step on time. Remind your billing admin to check their email and Atlassian Admin for the approval request. Track billing approval status in Migrate Opsgenie. If it’s still pending, follow up with your billing admin.
What happens if billing isn’t approved?
If billing isn’t approved before the deadline, or billing request expires, migration will be automatically canceled. The Opsgenie Owner can restart the migration process.
If your trial period for Jira Service Management or Compass isn’t converted into a paid subscription before migration starts, your migration will also be canceled.
