Reporting terminology and advanced capabilities

Terminology

  • Dashboards: Dashboards are the reports you can find under the spaces which include multiple tables or graphs (charts) on one page, so that you can see all the related analysis regarding a specific function in a single place.

  • Filters: Conditions at the top of each dashboard which you alter and combine to specify what data you are looking for. These filters are different depending on the dashboard you are currently accessing but allow for a highly customized report.

  • Charts: Charts are the individual tables and graphs that you can find in a dashboard.

  • Spaces: Spaces contain a set of dashboards that make sense together.

Filtering with text input

We have a message filter in the Alert Analytics global and team dashboard. This takes text as input and works as a multi-search text box. Text input controls require an exact string match. However, you can set up searching by partial string matches, which lets you use wildcards, for both single-value and multi-value ‘text input’ controls.

For single-value text input controls

Setting up partial string matches for single-value ‘text input’ controls is similar to the usual setup process. You may enter only one value here (which could be a single character, or word, or sentence).

When you or other dashboard viewers use the text input on the dashboard, you can use wildcards in the search terms of your text input.

For example, if you wanted to filter your chart for names that start with “B”, you’d use the following search term in your text input: B%

For multi-value text input controls

You may enter multi-value text inputs (which could be several characters, or words, or sentences). Partial search is allowed here.

For example, if you want to filter your chart for names that contain the word “Exception”, start with “Exception”, end with “Exception”, and has the entire word “Exception”, you’d use the search term depicted %Exception%, Exception%, %Exception, Exception respectively in your text input.

Hiding or showing a value in specific charts

In specific charts where the value labels are available, you can hide or show the values by clicking on the labels. Once a value is hidden, the chart would adjust automatically with the remaining values.
