How redaction works

Redaction is the process of selectively deleting sensitive data. Your organization may identify, redact and replace such data with a solid bar. For example, a credit card number may be considered sensitive data.

How does redaction appear?

If sensitive data has been redacted, you will see a solid bar where the sensitive data was. Here’s an example page where a bank account number has been redacted.

The solid bar can be deleted from your content if you don’t need to show that data was redacted.

What happens to the historical versions?

Your organization may choose to delete any historical versions that contained the sensitive data. Deleted versions cannot be restored. About Confluence page versions and history

In the example below, sensitive data was present in versions 3 and 4. During redaction, these versions were deleted, and a new version 3 added with the solid bar. The comment indicates that content was redacted. The Changed by column shows the administrator who redacted the content.
