Set a due date from the card title
Trello can automatically detect a due date from your card title when you create a new card. Type a card title like "Submit report by Friday" and Trello adds Friday as the due date — no date picker needed.
This feature uses natural language processing (NLP) to recognize date references in your card title as you type. It understands a wide range of expressions, including relative dates like "tomorrow," specific dates like "December 1," and weekday references like "this Thursday."
How it works
Open any Trello board and select Add a card in any list.
In the card title field, type your card name and include a date phrase — for example: "Draft blog post due Friday."
Trello highlights the detected date and shows a preview below the composer.
Confirm the date, or select X to dismiss it.
Press Enter or select Add card.
Your card is created with the due date already set. The date phrase is removed from the card title

How does Trello know what date I mean?
Trello uses natural language processing (NLP) to recognize dates and relative time references in your card title as you create a card. It understands expressions like "by Friday," "on June 3rd," "next Monday," and similar phrases, and automatically converts them into a due date on the card.
Will the date reference be removed from the card title?
No, the date phrase referenced will remain in the card title, and the date is visible as a due date badge on the card front.
Does this work when editing an existing card title?
No. Due date detection currently works only when you are creating a new card. If you edit the title of an existing card, the due date won't be set or updated automatically. You can still set or change due dates manually at any time using the date picker.
What if Trello sets the wrong due date?
You can edit or remove the due date at any time by opening the card and using the date picker. The automatically set date is just a starting point.
If I type a date in a checklist item or description, will that also set a due date?
No. Dates in descriptions, checklist items, or comments won't trigger automatic due dates.
Can Trello also set a due time?
It sets the due date only. If you need a specific time (e.g., 3:00 PM), you can adjust it manually using the date picker after the card is created.
Does this work with start dates?
Natural language detection only sets due dates. Start dates still need to be set manually via the date picker.
Is this available on mobile?
Not yet.
Does due date detection work with automations or via the Trello API?
No. Natural language due date detection only works when creating a card through the Trello web interface. Cards created via the API, Automation, or email-to-board won't have their titles parsed for dates.
What languages are supported?
At the moment, this feature is only available in English.
