Create cards with voice capture in Trello

Trello’s voice capture feature lets you record thoughts, tasks, and ideas hands-free. Using Trello AI, Trello automatically transcribes your speech and structures it into a new card with a title, description, due date, and checklist (when applicable).

Once you review and approve the suggested card, it is added directly to your list (or to your Inbox when recording from the mobile app).

Where to find voice capture

You can access voice capture on both desktop/web and mobile devices:

  • Desktop / Web browser: Find the voice capture audio wave icon in the list footer. Select it to start recording.

How to create a card using voice capture

Tips for best results: Speak naturally and pause briefly between ideas to help Trello AI organize your tasks into separate checklist items. If you make a mistake, simply say the correction aloud while recording (for example, "due Wednesday—actually, Thursday").

Follow these steps to record and generate a new card:

  1. Select or tap the audio wave icon to start recording. If this is your first time using voice capture, your browser or device will prompt you to allow microphone access. Select Allow to continue.

  2. Clearly describe your task, idea, or reminder. You can speak for up to 5 minutes per recording.

  3. When you finish speaking, select the Pause/Complete button () (or let the timer complete).

  4. Review the AI-generated card preview:

    • Title: Automatically summarized from your main objective.

    • Description: Contains context and details from your recording.

    • Due date: Extracted if you mentioned a specific day or timeframe (e.g., "due next Friday").

    • Checklist: Created if your recording outlined multiple steps or subtasks.

  5. Select Add the card to your Inbox(), or select Cancel () to discard it.

FAQ

What languages does voice capture support?

Voice capture supports all 20+ languages officially supported by Trello. You can speak in your preferred supported language, and the AI will transcribe and generate the card structure accordingly.

How is voice capture different from Siri integration on iOS?

Voice capture works natively within Trello using AI to structure your notes into titles, descriptions, due dates, and checklists. Siri integration functions separately via iOS Shortcuts to capture plain text to your Inbox.

Who can use Voice capture?

Voice capture is available to workspace members on paid plans (Standard, Premium, and Enterprise) with Atlassian Intelligence (AI) enabled, as well as users on an active free trial. Guests on workspaces are not eligible.

What are the monthly recording allowances for voice capture?

Monthly recording allowances depend on your plan tier, with a maximum recording length of 5 minutes per capture across all supported plans:

  • Standard plan: 25 minutes per month

  • Premium plan: 50 minutes per month

  • Enterprise plan: 50 minutes per month

Can I edit the card before saving it?

Card previews are read-only, but you can make adjustments by speaking your corrections while recording. If you want to change how your thoughts are structured or fix a detail, simply say it aloud. For example, if Trello generates three separate cards for "Complete onboarding tasks", "Complete onboarding training", and "Post standup update", you can correct it while recording by saying: "Combine them into a single card and create checklist items." Once the card is added to your list, you can edit all fields manually just like any standard Trello card.

Where does the card go once approved?

Cards created from the list footer on desktop or web are added directly to the bottom of that list. Cards created using the mobile app are added to your Trello Inbox.

How do I provide feedback on voice capture?

After saving or dismissing a card preview on Trello for web, a feedback prompt ("How did voice capture do?") will briefly appear near your Inbox. Select the prompt to share your comments or report issues directly to the product team.

Can Enterprise Admins control or disable voice capture across their organization?

Yes. Voice capture is governed by Trello’s organization-level controls. Enterprise Admins can enable or disable AI capabilities centrally for all managed workspaces via Atlassian Administration.

How does voice capture respect workspace and board permissions?

Voice capture adheres to existing Trello role-based permissions. Users can only capture and create cards on boards and lists where they already have card-creation access. It does not expose or grant access to any data beyond what the user is already authorized to see.
