Emails sent to Trello inbox never arrive

These features are only available through our closed beta. Functionality may change daily as development continues.

If you’re a beta user, join us in a private community group. You can ask your question there or see what other beta users have already asked. This is also the space for you to communicate feedback and start a discussion with the Trello team.

While we aren’t able to add people to the beta by request, we’re planning to make these features available to a broader audience in the coming months!

A couple of things must be true in order to create a card in your Trello inbox by sending an email to inbox@app.trello.com:

  • The address you’re sending from must match the address used for Trello. For example, if you send an email from taco@trello.com to inbox@app.trello.com, it will create a card in the Trello inbox of the account registered to taco@trello.com.

  • Your mail server must be set up so that the domain of the envelope address matches the domain of the "From" address. This configuration helps prevent issues like email spoofing and phishing, which can compromise your account's security.

If your mail server isn’t configured to do that, emails sent to Trello from your domain might be blocked, or encounter other errors.

To resolve this, try one of the following:

  • Send an email to your inbox’s unique email address instead of inbox@app.trello.com

  • Work with the people who manage your domain’s mail server to make sure emails you send to Trello can be properly identified

Send an email to your inbox’s unique email address

Use your inbox’s unique email address if you run into any trouble with inbox@app.trello.com, or if you want to create a card from an email address that doesn’t match the one you use with Trello. For example, if your Atlassian account uses your personal email, and you want to create a card from your work email address.

To find the unique email address for your inbox:

  1. Open any Trello board

  2. Select Inbox from the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen

  3. Select the inbox menu () then Email to inbox

  4. Choose More options

  5. Copy the address from Send from any email address

Configure email servers so email is properly identified

Work with the people who manage your domain’s mail server to check its configuration. There are three settings they’ll need to check. If all three are configured properly, emails you send to Trello should be delivered to your Trello inbox as expected.

DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail): This adds a digital signature to your emails, helping to verify that the message has not been altered.

SPF (Sender Policy Framework): This specifies which mail servers are allowed to send emails on behalf of your domain.

DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance): This policy helps you manage how your domain handles suspicious emails, providing reports on email authentication.
