Adding lists to a board

A list is a collection of vertically-arranged cards. They may represent a collection of ideas, things to remember, or different stages of a workflow.

Adding

Add a list to a board by clicking the "Add a list..." button next to the rightmost list on the board. You can also add a list by double-clicking any open space on the board.

Click "Add a list..." or double-click any open space on your board to add a new list.

Editing

You can also move lists by dragging them left and right:

You can rename a list by clicking the list’s name, and typing its new name:

Personalizing your lists

Currently, there are two ways you can customize your lists on Trello:

• Add colors to your lists with List colors.

• Collapse your lists with Collapsible lists.

Changing colors of your list

List colors allow users to apply different colors to their lists for better organization and visual distinction. This can help you organize your workflows with visual cues.

List colors can be included in both light and dark modes.

To enable list colors, click on the three dots icon on the right side of your list, which will open a context menu. From there, you can select the color of your lists.

We support the following List colors:

• Gray (default)

• Green

• Yellow

• Orange

• Red

• Purple

• Blue

• Teal

• Lime

• Magenta

Collapsing lists on your board

Collapsible lists is a new feature on Trello that allows you to collapse or expand lists on your board. Collapsing lists can also help you focus your view of the board on the most relevant lists for you. It also works perfectly in combination with List colors.

To collapse a list, click on the collapse icon on the right side of your list name, which will automatically collapse it.

Furthermore, you can also collapse your lists by using the keyboard shortcut backslash (“\”) to collapse the list your mouse is currently hovering over. Or, you can collapse all your lists through the board menu by selecting the option “Collapse all lists”.
