Use Jira in Trello

We're updating our terminology in Jira

'Issue' is changing to 'work item'. You might notice some inconsistencies while this big change takes place.

Trello offers multiple built-in features that allow you to add Jira content to your Trello boards, and interact with it. This article compiles all of these features, and how you can use them to integrate Jira into your Trello workflow.

Card attachments

The card attachments feature allows you to attach a multitude of files and pages to your cards, including work items from Jira. Add a Jira work item to a card to see detailed information about it on the card’s Attachments section, as well as change its status without having to leave Trello. Attach a Jira work item to a card.

Smart Links is a feature that converts plain links/URLs into interactive, rich previews. Add a link to a Jira work item to a card’s description or comments to generate a Smart Link that displays key information about the work item, such as title, description, assignee, and also allows you to change its status in the spot. Collaborate using Smart Links.

Link cards converts cards with a plain link for its name/title into an interactive preview, providing similar functionality than Smart Links. When creating a new card, add a link to a Jira work item as its name to convert it into a link card, turning it into a preview of the work item that remains visible and interactable even when the card is closed. Create a link card.

Note that link cards work exclusively as content previews, and will not have the same features of a regular card (checklists, comments, due dates, attachments, etc).

Jira lists

Jira lists is a feature that allows you to create a list on any of your boards that automatically populate with Jira work items that match a customizable (Jira Query Language) query. Create a custom list of Jira work items.

Automations

Trello Automations allow you to automate many actions based on events that happen on your Trello boards. Connect Automations to your Jira instance, and automate actions like creating a new Jira work item, or even adding comments to existing ones. Automate Jira actions from Trello.
