Connect GitHub to Teamwork Graph
Integrate your development workflow and search across your PRs, issues, commits, and repos.
What is indexed?
The GitHub connector indexes these objects:
Repositories
Pull requests
Pull request comments
Issues
Issue comments
Commits
Branches
For each object, it indexes these attributes:
Name
URL
Created date
Last updated date
Creator
Collaborators
For security teams or approvals
If your team already uses the GitHub for Jira Marketplace app, this connector uses the same ingested data. This connector only makes the existing data available to Rovo Search, Chat and Agents.
Before you begin
This setting controls what data is synced from GitHub into Atlassian for indexing and search. When you access GitHub data in Rovo at runtime, your own GitHub access is used.
Connecting to GitHub is only possible if you have Jira available on the same site as Teamwork Graph.
Teamwork Graph is only compatible with GitHub Cloud (including Enterprise Cloud). It’s not available for GitHub Enterprise Server at this time.
To connect, you need Organization owner permissions in GitHub.
We encourage you to review your permissions in GitHub. Repositories that have not been restricted, and any associated pull requests, issues, branches, and commits will appear for your teammates in search results.
Connecting to GitHub
Most organizations turn on the GitHub Teamwork Graph connector automatically while setting up the GitHub for Atlassian app, because it’s now selected by default. If you already have the app set up, or you didn’t enable the connector during setup, you can add it from Atlassian Administration instead.
Enable the connector while setting up the GitHub for Atlassian app
When you connect a GitHub organization through the GitHub for Atlassian app, and that organization doesn’t already have a GitHub connector, you’re prompted to enable Rovo Search for GitHub. This option is selected by default.
Review the consent terms, then select Next. A GitHub connector is created automatically for that organization. If you clear the checkbox, no connector is created.
After setup, the GitHub for Atlassian app shows the status of your Rovo connector and links directly to its settings in Atlassian Administration, where you can enable or disable it at any time.
If you add another GitHub organization when a GitHub connector already exists, the app shows that Rovo Search in GitHub is enabled and links you to the connector settings in Atlassian Administration.
Add the connector from Atlassian Administration
To get to the setup screen for GitHub:
Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.
Select Apps, then Connectors.
If you have more than one site, pick the site you want to connect, then select Add connector.
Select GitHub, then Next.
Next, to configure GitHub:
Enter a nickname for your GitHub connection.
You’ll be asked to install the GitHub for Atlassian Marketplace app and configure it. If you already have the app, you may be asked to adjust some permissions to ensure the connection works with Teamwork Graph. For more information, see Connect GitHub Cloud to Jira.
Review and agree to the data usage information.
Select Connect.
Next steps
After you’ve finished connecting GitHub:
GitHub content will start to show in Search incrementally over the next few hours.
Your team members will see GitHub show up as a filter option in Search. If they haven’t connected to GitHub from their Atlassian account, they may be asked to connect before they can see results. This is required so Teamwork Graph can make sure your teammates only see results they usually have access to.
Depending on the amount of content in GitHub, it may take some time for all your content to be indexed and appear in Search.
Disconnect your GitHub data from Rovo
Because your GitHub data is integrated through GitHub for Atlassian app, to disconnect your GitHub data from Rovo, you’ll need to:
Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.
Select Apps, then Connectors.
If you have more than one site, pick the site where your GitHub Teamwork Graph connector is installed.
Find the GitHub connector and select Manage from the Actions.
Turn off Show results in Rovo Search.
