Create a sandbox

You can create a sandbox for your Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Confluence products that are on Premium or Enterprise plans, as well as Jira Work Managementthat is on a Premium plan.

Create sandbox

To create a sandbox, you must have organization admin permissions. Once created, all organization admins will have access to your sandbox. Manage permissions the same as you would for your production sites. Learn about admin permissions and groups and product access

To create a sandbox:

  1. Go to admin.atlassian.com. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Products > Sandbox.

  3. Select Create sandbox.

  4. Choose the product you want to create the sandbox for.

  5. Create your sandbox on a new sandbox site or add to an existing site.

  6. Select Create sandbox.

We’ll notify you through email and your Sandbox page when your sandbox is ready. If you refresh the page while we’re creating your sandbox, your sandbox will continue creation in the background.

It could take up to 30 minutes to create your sandbox. If the sandbox isn’t ready after 30 minutes, contact support.

View sandboxes

To view your created sandboxes:

  1. Go to admin.atlassian.com. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Products > Sandbox.

Creating multiple sandboxes

Customers who are participating the multiple sandboxes beta can create two sandboxes for each product in an Enterprise plan.

We plan to enforce a limit in the near future for the number of sandboxes per Enterprise plan. Once this limit is in place, any additional sandboxes beyond the limit will have to be suspended. As a precaution, we recommend not to create more than six sandboxes at the moment, even though the limit has not yet been imposed.

Sandboxes for BYOK-encrypted products

When you create a sandbox for products encrypted with Bring You Own Key (BYOK) encryption, the sandbox data is also BYOK-encrypted. Otherwise, your sandbox data is encrypted using Atlassian-managed keys. What is BYOK encryption?
