AI features in Trello
Trello’s AI features handle a specific piece of board busywork so you can spend less time organizing and more time doing. All the features besides the Trello MCP server are available on web and desktop to Standard, Premium, and Enterprise plans. The Trello MCP server is available to any Trello user.
Create boards with AI
Describe your goal and Trello will use AI to create a personalized, ready-to-use board in seconds, complete with lists and cards. Whatever you want to do — from planning an event to accomplishing a goal — Trello will generate a well-structured board that shows you the best way to get started. Boards default to private, and you can edit the AI-generated content as you see fit. To try it out, select Create on any Trello board and choose the option to create a board with AI.
Merge multiple cards into one
Merge related or duplicate cards on your Trello board. Trello uses AI to combine two or more cards in just a few moments, creating a single blended card with title, description, and details that incorporate information from the merged ones. Drag and hover a card on top of another to merge cards, or bulk select cards using the Shift key and then opening the menu. Undo the merge if you’re not happy with the results – merged cards are archived, not deleted.
AI-generated checklists
Automatically generate a checklist of subtasks on the back of any card with a single click. Trello takes the title and description of your card and uses AI to generate a suggested checklist of steps you can take to achieve it. Edit or reorder your AI-generated checklist from there. To try it out, add a new checklist to a Trello card and look for the Generate checklist button. Give your new checklist a title to better steer the AI-generated results. You can select the thumbs up or thumbs down icons to give feedback on the content.

AI-recommended focus time
Trello can help you block off time to get stuff done. Open the menu on any card and select Suggest focus time. Trello uses AI to find open time in your calendar and add recommended focus time for the task at hand. Accept or dismiss the recommended focus time as needed, and configure Planner AI rules ahead of time to apply your preferences on when and what Trello suggests. You can also open Planner in Trello and select Plan my day from the More actions () menu in the top right to do this across all your cards in one go. To have this done daily, turn on proactive scheduling in your AI settings. You’ll need to have a calendar connected.
AI-generated images for board backgrounds and card covers
Easily personalize your boards and cards with header images. Just describe the image you have in mind and Trello will use AI to generate it in seconds. Use this new feature to change your board background or add a header image to a card.

Set a due date from the card title
Trello can now automatically detect a card’s due date based on the card title. Type a card title like "Submit report by Friday" and Trello will add Friday as the due date. Now, Trello can recognize a wide range of ways to express dates, including relative dates like “tomorrow,” specific dates like “December 1” and weekday references like “this Thursday.” This feature works in English on new cards only.

Generate, transform, and summarize content
Use aI to improve your writing and streamline your cards with Rovo. Generate new content in your card’s descriptions and comments – brainstorm new content, summarize or shorten the content you already have, find action items, and improve your spelling and grammar.
How to generate new content:
Open a card and select the description field, or start a new comment.
Select the Rovo button in the editor toolbar.
In the AI pop-up, type a prompt describing what you need — for example, "Draft a project kickoff summary" or "Write a description for a marketing campaign card."
Select the Generate option (return arrow). Rovo produces content based on your prompt.
Review the result, then select Insert to add it to your description or comment. Select Refine to try again with the same prompt, or your prompt and resubmit.
How to edit or improve existing content:
Highlight the text you want to improve in a card description or comment.
Select the Rovo button in the toolbar.
Choose from the available options:
Summarize writing — condense lengthy text into a concise summary of the most important points.
Improve writing — refine the clarity, flow, and overall quality of your text while keeping the original meaning.
Find action items — identify and extract specific tasks, owners, and next steps from your notes or discussions.
Fix spelling & grammar — automatically detect and correct typos, punctuation errors, and grammatical mistakes.
Make shorter — remove unnecessary words and fluff to make your content more direct and easier to read.
Change tone — adjust the style of your writing to be more professional, empathetic, casual, neutral, or educational depending on your audience.
Review the suggested edit. Select Replace to swap in the new text, Insert below to see the old and new text side-by-side, or Discard to keep your original.
Tips:
The more context you provide in your prompt, the better the output. Include details like audience, format, or length.
You can chain AI actions — for example, generate a first draft, then use "Refine” to polish it.
AI works on both new and existing descriptions and comments — you don't need to start from scratch to benefit.
Connect Trello to AI assistants with Trello MCP
Trello MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a cloud-based bridge between your Trello account and compatible external AI assistants. Once configured, it lets those tools interact with your Trello boards, cards, and tasks using natural language.
With Trello MCP, you can manage work without switching between apps. Your AI assistant can read Trello data, search across it, and take actions on your behalf based on the permissions you grant. Trello MCP is available to all users, on any Trello plan. Enterprise user access is managed by the organizational admin.
