Update a product URL to a new URL

The product URL is the URL used to access your cloud products. There are several reasons you might want to change this URL such as a company rebrand or to clarify the purpose of the product. Whether you can change this URL depends on a number of factors.

Can I update the product URL?

You won’t be able to change the product URL if:

  • You are not an organization admin.

  • The site only contains products on free plans. You need at least one Jira or Confluence product on a paid plan to be able to change the URL.

  • The URL has been changed too many times. You can only change a product URL up to 3 times.

  • The new URL is already in use or was used previously. Because we redirect the old URL, it won’t be available for another site. You’ll need to choose a new, unique URL.

In the example below, you can’t change the product URL for acme-partners because that site only contains free plans. You can change the product URL for acme-support because it contains at least one product on a higher plan, and has not been changed too many times previously.

Update the product URL

You need to be an organization admin to do this.

To update a product URL:

  1. Go to admin.atlassian.com. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Products > Product URLs.

  3. For the site you want to update, select Update URL.

  4. Enter the beginning of the new site URL. You’ll need to enter at least 3 characters. You can use lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens if they’re in the middle of the name.

  5. Select Continue.

  6. You’ll see the list of products that will use the new URL. Select Update to confirm you want to change the URLs.

It may take up to 5 minutes for the change to take place.

What happens after the URL is updated?

We’ll store the previous URL in your site’s history and redirect all links to the new URL. This means that when people visit old URLs (for example, links to Jira issues and Confluence pages), we’ll redirect them to the new URL.

Make sure you check whether any apps need to be reconfigured or reinstalled after the change. Learn how updating a product URL affects apps
