Manage boards and filters when you copy product data

We plan to enable the copying of all boards and filters in phases by September 2024. You will see it as a supported feature within the next few weeks.

When you copy boards and filters, it can include:

  • Boards created from multiple projects

  • Boards from an existing saved filter

  • All shared filters

A filter can have shared access with the following:

Shared access with

Description

Private

The owner and Jira admins can only view and edit the private filter.

User/Group/Project

The filter is shared with a user, group, or project. Depending on the permissions granted, users can view or edit the filter.

Any logged-in user

The filter is shared with all users on your Jira instance.

Anyone on the web

Sharing a filter with anyone on the web allows public access to certain information on your site. If you want to prevent people who aren't logged in from viewing this information and limit access to your logged-in users, either:

Single project boards and filters created and shared with projects selected for copying would be automatically copied regardless of the options chosen.

Copy cross-project boards and filters

If you copy plans in Jira, you need to copy board and filters. This ensures that your boards, filters, and plans all appear as expected since they are linked.

You can choose to copy the following:

Copy options

Example

Only boards and filters associated with selected projects

Single and cross-project boards are created on or shared with the projects you've chosen to copy.

What's copied

What's not copied

All filters and boards created or shared with your selected projects

Single project filters shared with:

  • public or private, or to specific users and groups

  • projects that are not copied

  • If you've selected Project A and Project B to copy, all boards and filters created or shared in these two projects will be copied.

  • Boards and filters shared with public or private users, groups, or with a non-migrating Project C won’t be copied.

All filters and cross-project boards
All filters (single and cross-project) and cross-project boards, irrespective of their shared access.

All filters and cross-project boards, regardless of their shared access

Single project boards created on projects that are not copied

To migrate these boards, include the relevant projects in your migration.

To copy these boards, include the relevant projects in your copy plan.

  • If you've selected Project A and Project B, all filters and boards will be copied regardless of their shared permission.

  • Single project boards created on project C that are not included in the copy plan will not be copied. To copy these boards, you'll have to copy Project C.

Don't copy cross-project boards and filters

Single project boards and filters created and shared with selected projects

None of the cross-project boards and filters will be copied

If you've selected Project A, any single project boards created for and shared with Project A will be copied. However, cross-project boards and filters created for Project A will not be copied.

Some boards and filters may be associated with additional projects, including ones you haven't selected. You can copy the cross-project boards and filters now. We'll relink them when the relevant projects are copied to the destination.

Team-managed projects associated with boards

If you have a board with issues from team-managed projects but haven't included those team-managed projects in your copy plan, you'll lose its card mappings and statuses. To avoid losing this, make sure you copy the board along with associated team-managed projects.
