We’re renaming ‘products’ to ‘apps’

Atlassian 'products’ are now ‘apps’. You may see both terms used across our documentation as we roll out this terminology change. Here’s why we’re making this change

What are release tracks?

Who can do this?
Role: Organization admin
Atlassian Cloud: Premium or Enterprise plan for Jira, Jira Service Management, and Confluence
Atlassian Government Cloud: Not available, How changes release to the Atlassian Government environment

Release tracks are settings that help you manage when apps and sandboxes in your organization receive changes and new features.

Release track options

Select a release track that aligns with your preferred way of receiving changes:

  • Continuous track: To receive all types of changes as soon as they become available. By default, your Atlassian apps and sandboxes are on the continuous release track.

  • Bundled track: To get most of the changes as a group on a monthly cadence. Bundled changes roll out from 22:00 UTC on the second Tuesday of each month. You can’t customize the time your apps receive changes.

  • Preview track: To test bundled changes in advance. This track is available only for sandboxes.

Changes included in the continuous track

The continuous track includes all types of changes. Changes include new features, improvements, bug fixes, security and performance updates, and removal of an app or feature.

Changes included in the bundled track

The bundled track includes visible changes that require people to adjust the way they are working, but do not cause significant impact to the organization. Some examples include:

  • moving a button

  • a new task the user needs to complete

  • a new setting

  • a new step in a Jira workflow

Changes not included in the bundled track

The following types of changes will continue to roll out as soon as they are available, even after you switch your app to the bundled track:

  • Bug fixes and security and performance updates.

  • Jira Service Management features powered by Opsgenie.

  • Visible changes that roll out over a longer period of time. These changes could be the removal of a product or feature, or a large, significant change. Examples of large, significant changes include moving to:

    • the new issue experience in Jira

    • the fabric editor in Confluence

Changes included in the preview track

This track contains the same set of changes as the bundled track. But your sandbox receives the bundled changes a month before they are available in production. Configure the release track of your sandbox
