Run a backup

When you run a backup for a product for the first time, we save the configuration as a backup policy. We store a copy of your Jira or Confluence product data in Atlassian storage for 14 days. In case your data is lost, corrupted, or inaccessible, you can use this copy to restore your product data within 14 days. You can also download your backup locally and restore it within 60 days of backup. How to download a backup

You can run a new backup once every 7 days. If your backup fails or is incomplete, you can run it again as many times as you need until you get a complete backup. Learn more about backup limitations

You can reuse an existing policy to run future backups for the same product.

To run the same backup again:

  1. Go to admin.atlassian.com. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Settings > Data management.

  3. Select Backup and restore.

  4. In the Backup policy table, find the policy that includes the product you want to backup. Select View details.

  5. Select Run backup.

  6. Select whether you want to include attachments, and for Confluence whether you want to include personal spaces.

  7. Review the data to back up, and select Confirm.

To run a backup for a new product, create a new policy following the steps in the previous section. Learn what product data is included in the backup
