Connect an Amazon S3 storage

Create an AWS S3 bucket

In AWS, create an AWS S3 bucket, or use an existing one. Learn how to create an S3 bucket

The S3 bucket must be in the region where your Atlassian data is stored. To find the regions where your Atlassian data is stored:

  1. Go to admin.atlassian.com. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Settings > Data management.

  3. Select Backup and restore.

  4. From the Manage storage tab, select Connect storage.

  5. On the Connect external storage page, check the regions listed. Your Atlassian organization data is stored in these regions.

Once you’ve created the bucket for each of the regions, make a note of the following values, as you’ll need them in the next step:

  • bucketName - the name of the bucket you created.

  • bucketRegion - the region the bucket resides in.

  • Create a prefix (folder) if you want to arrange your backups.

Connect storage

  1. Go to admin.atlassian.com. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Settings > Data management.

  3. Select Backup and restore.

  4. From the Manage storage tab, select Connect storage.

  5. Enter the S3 bucket name where you want to backup your data.

  6. Select the AWS region where you’ve created the bucket.

  7. Add a folder if you have one or if you want to create a new one. When you add a folder name, we’ll create a folder for you. Learn more about Amazon S3 folders

  8. Generate a bucket policy in the JSON format.

  9. Copy and paste this JSON to the clipboard.

Go back to your AWS console

  1. Go back to your bucket policy in your AWS console.

  2. In the left navigation pane, choose Buckets.

  3. In the Buckets list, choose the name of the bucket that you want to create a bucket policy for or whose bucket policy you want to edit.

  4. Select the Permissions tab.

  5. Under Bucket policy, choose Edit. The Edit bucket policy page appears.

  6. On the Edit bucket policy page, in the Policy box, paste the bucket policy that you

  7. Make sure to resolve security warnings, errors, general warnings, and suggestions before you save your policy.
