What is the impact of shadow IT on my organization?

Shadow IT products aren’t centrally managed from your Atlassian organization. Instead of appearing under your Products at admin.atlassian.com, you’ll find them under Security > Discovered products.

There are a few reasons you may want to track shadow IT products.

Stay on top of where users are keeping company data:

  • Your users may save sensitive information to these products

  • Users not associated with your organization may get access to your company’s content and data through their product access

Understand their impact to your company’s bills:

  • More users than you realize may have access to Atlassian products, which could result in a higher Atlassian Access bill than you expect

  • You may be paying for extra products if some of them are set up to address similar user needs

If you find out shadow IT products exist, the details about each product make it easier to prioritize which products may pose the most risk. From there, you can chase down their impact to your users, data, and bills.
