How does the Atlassian Government Cloud environment work?

The Atlassian Government Cloud environment resides primarily in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) us-east-1 region with some selective components duplicated for reliability in the us-west-2 region. AWS East/West has a FedRAMP Moderate Provisional Authority to Operate (P-ATO).

Atlassian Government Cloud offers customers Jira, Jira Service Management, and Confluence in addition to administration and migration tools. To access these products, customers log in to an Atlassian Government account. This account is different from the Atlassian account that’s used to log into the rest of our Atlassian Cloud products.

To keep government data separate, we built a separate environment for all Atlassian Government products and services. In an Atlassian Government environment, these products and services, along with all customer data and product provisioning, are separated by a cross-partition gateway from the Atlassian Cloud environment.

Network firewalls prevent data from leaving the environment unless the data is approved for third-party services. When it is approved, only non-federal data can leave the Atlassian Government environment. Data also must be approved to enter the Atlassian Government environment.
